From the owner, Peter Benck:
In 2009, Good Style Shop began as a tiny vintage clothing buy-sell-exchange shop and arts venue 3 blocks from the Wisconsin state capitol. Since moving to 817 E. Johnson in October 2012, Good Style Shop has grown into a collective with a discriminating view of cool, accessible vintage clothing & accessories.
Find us near the intersection of N. Livingston & E. Johnson.
Each of our 7 vendors collects their weekly finds and merchandises them on their work day. From '30s finery to midcentury cocktail, men's denim to UW-Madison throwback apparel, each member delivers a niche stash every day of the week. All our sellers relate clothing to a way of living — we know fashion to be a proclamation of well-traveled, personal style.
As an extension of the concept, Good Style Shop founded Midwest Vintage Flea, a biannual multi-vendor event hosted by a downtown Madison venue in 2016. This ongoing event brings together several Midwestern vintage clothing stores together for an all-day marketplace celebrating all kinds of personal style expressed through vintage clothing. Our biggest Midwest Vintage Flea yet, Spring 2018, brought in thousands of attendees with 13 vintage clothing vendors from 4 states represented.
Our customers range from returning neighbors, vintage clothing enthusiasts, foreign resellers, and industrial production teams. We do our absolute best to make sure all are welcome.
Over the years, our best-selling items stay tethered to contemporary cycles, but don’t exactly replicate them. A lot of items we sell serve to set off, or personalize someone’s modern wardrobe, but then again, current trends nearly always replicate or borrow vintage silhouettes, styles, and materials. We love to serve vintage die-hards and bleeding-edge style hunters alike. We love to bridge that gap.
