How it started...

From the owner, Peter Benck:

Good Style Shop began as a small vintage clothing buy-sell-exchange shop on the corner of East Wash and Hancock back in 2009. Since moving to the Tenney-Lapham neighborhood in October 2012, the store became a collective with a discriminating view of cool, accessible vintage clothing and LP records. In keeping with the original vision, we hosted art installations and live music performances.

Each vendor at Good Style Shop has their own day of the week to merchandise their particular vintage finds. Some of our independent vendors have been with the shop for over a decade, some are emerging talents in the fashion industry at large, and some have even started their own vintage shops in the area.

Many of our customers are returning neighbors and former neighbors, vintage clothing collectors, stylists, resellers, and fashion students from local colleges.

Our best-sellers stay in line with contemporary vintage trends— campus crewnecks, y2k denim, band tees. But the store was founded as a harmonized collection of a lot of eras of vintage styles all in one little store. 

Who We Are

We're a vintage clothing shop rooted right here in Madison, Wisconsin. What started as a passion for hunting down exceptional pieces has grown into a full-fledged shop — a place where every item on the rack has a history, a character, and a story of its own. We're not a warehouse. We're not a reseller algorithm. We're real people who genuinely care about what we put in front of you.

The Curation Is Everything

We hand-select every single piece. That means we're constantly digging — through far and away flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores, and private collections — to find the items that are truly worth bringing to you. One-of-a-kind pieces spanning decades, from the 1940s through the early 2000s. Workwear, denim, flannel, leather, knitwear, graphic tees, outerwear, and more. If it made it onto our floor or into our shop, it earned its place. 

We believe vintage clothing is sustainable fashion done right. Buying secondhand keeps great pieces out of landfills and puts something genuinely unique in your wardrobe — not a fast-fashion copy, but the real thing. Plus, the collage of era-mixed vintage clothing in your own personal wardrobe really brings you a sense of indescribable satisfaction.

• Shop online / @goodstyleshop — Browse our selection right here and on Instagram. New pieces drop regularly, and inventory moves fast, so check back often.
• Local pickup — Madison locals can skip the shipping and pick up their order in store. Just select local pickup at checkout. Don't forget to pick it up, though!
• Visit us in person — Come see the shop any day of the week. Dig through the racks yourself. There's nothing quite like finding the perfect vintage piece in person.
